Chronotope is an independent theatre company founded by director Ilya Moschitsky. Since 2022 it has been based in Yerevan, bringing together artists from Armenia and beyond.

Chronotope works at the intersection of theatre, performance and contemporary art. At the heart of its practice is collective creation: material emerges not only from a pre-written text, but from research, improvisation, the personal experience of the participants and the process of encounter itself.

For Chronotope, theatre is above all a space of shared experience. The company does not set out to hand the audience a ready-made interpretation or lead them to a predetermined conclusion. A performance becomes an environment in which each spectator can choose their own route, draw connections between what is happening and shape their own experience.

In Yerevan, Chronotope has created the performances “To Forget / Moranal”, “I’m Still Here”, “KAP / Կապ”, “Time to Smile” and other projects. The company also initiates international laboratories and educational programmes, and collaborates with artists and theatre institutions from different countries.

Chronotope’s works can live in a wide range of spaces and formats — from a theatre stage to a bar, the city streets, or a space built specifically for the meeting of audience and performer. Each time, the format is defined not by genre, but by the question the project grows around.

Chronotope sees theatre not as a place for producing finished statements, but as a living situation of encounter — a space of inquiry, attention and being present together.
